"Amigo, Amigo"

This was interesting time of my life.  I had been selected to spend one year to study abroad in Mexico City.  I had also considered Madrid, Spain but I declined because it was too far and  5 Chicanas from UCI were joining me to Mexico.  It was an attempt to get back to our roots by living in our “Mother Country” and a chance to discover more who I am and where I came from.Although I was born in San Luis Potosi, Mexico, I was raised in the United States and had never spent a long time there. I had never been to Mexico City since on one occasion when my family did go, I decided to stay in Christmas break and take driver’s training instead.  Therefore I had never seen la capital. I remember reading books by Laura Ingels Little House in the Prairie when I was in elementary school.  They opened up a whole world for me.Later on when I was in high school, I remembering reading in my 2 year Latin class the writings of Julius Cesar in Latin.Although I don’t think of myself as an equal to either Julius Cesar or Laura Ingels and although one was  talking about 2000 years ago in Rome when it ruled the world and the other was of 1800 in the US Midwest while mine is of a Chicano in Mexico City in the 1970s, the stories are nonetheless important.

The History or Story Behind My Site

When I was studying in Mexico City, my junior year in college, I met someone my second (last) semester who taught me about journaling. And I kept a journal from the end of February until the last day of class June, 4. I wish I had discovered this in my first semester so I could have recorded it also besides the pictures.

Now years later, I am putting it in print. Mostly because it was one of the best years of my life.
